Christmas in July

Hello all. I am sharing my version of the newest Snowman Box Card found on SnapDragon Snippets site.

I started with two sheets of Bazzill Papers Coconut Swirl cardstock to cut out all the white portions. Then I dipped into my scrap papers to cut out the rest of the shapes.
I ran the white portions through the Sizzix Big Shot with a Darice polka dot embossing folder
Just to add a bit of texture that looks like snow.
I wanted my tree tops and roof to look like it had snow on it so I took the slicing tool in Silhouette Studios, selected the freehand option, and sliced the tops off.

Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils

Hello all. This week, the Xyron design team has teamed up with Derwent Academy to showcase their Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Tin, Derwent Academy Assorted Brushes, and Derwent Academy Watercolour Pad. For my project, I've been wanting to do a shadow box card using an ocean theme.

For the shadow box effect on the card, it was a simple four steps to creating it.

Next I discovered my printer was out of ink. But no worries, I just used the sketch feature in Silhouette Studios.
I sketched right onto the paper from Derwent Academy Watercolour Pad using a regular pen and the Silhouette pen holder attachment.
After my waves were cut out, I grabbed the Derwent Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil TinDerwent Academy Assorted Brushes, a little cup of water, and a rag.
I have worked with the Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Tin years ago when I was going through my drawing/painting stage. They are vibrant and smooth pencils.
There are three ways that I have found to use these pencils and brushes.
First Method:
Transfer color from paper to a wet brush and paint with the brush.
Second Method:
Color right on image. Blend with a wet brush.
Third Method: (My preferred method for this project)
Run the tip of the wet brush on the tip of the watercolour pencil and paint away.
What's an ocean themed card without shells? I wanted to add a little bit of texture to the shells. I simply grabbed my Stampendous Dream Text stamp with some Hampton Art acid free black ink. I knew this ink would not bleed when wet. Then I painted highlights over the text.
Once I had every element designed, cut, and colored, I used my Xyron Mega Runner®  to adhere the pieces in place.
I also painted the sentiment to keep in line with the theme.
For the inside insert, run adhesive along the tabs and put in place.
I decided the card needed just an extra boost. I wanted to do a fishing net, but I was fresh out of them. I know why would I, the non-fisher have nets lying around?! Anyhow I grabbed some Ashland Twine (I know wrong material, but it's only for a prop!) and made my own little net.
Finished Project:

Side view you can see why it's called a shadow box card.

    Where the Wild Things Are...

One of the art mediums I love to work with is vinyl. I don't get to use it often, mainly because I don't advertise that I use it. However, I have a large stash of vinyl hidden away and any chance I get to use it, I roll it out.

For this shadowbox, I made it for our first nephew that was born in March. My brother and sister-in-law chose a 'Where the Wild Things Are' theme for his nursery, as well as his coming home outfit from the hospital.

It's been on my list of things to do to get this shadowbox done. I couldn't find a shadowbox that wasn't just white or black. If I did find it in a different medium, it was either way too big or small. I happened to be at Michaels and found this shadowbox that has a faux wood around it. Perfect for this theme!

I went to Joann's next to grab some DCWV Project Paper to line the background of the shadowbox so it wasn't just black.

After they announced their theme, I just happened to come across the 'Wild One' set of monsters/little king by Lettering Delights in the Silhouette Design Store.
Honestly, I think my most favorite part about vinyl is weeding. I actually find it therapeutic. I know, I'm weird!
Next I found a quote that aptly had the name Max in it (guess the baby's name). I also found the font commonly used for this series. I welded the quote, monsters, and king together at 13" long to fit the front bottom of the shadowbox.
Slow goes it when applying this to make sure it is level, as well as no bubbles.
Next I added the yellow detailing for now.
I mounted the photos and other special details on brown and gold cardstock using my Xyron Mega Runner® .
The final step (not photographed was to add the yellow lettering so it popped better than just plain black).

    Camp Crazy Horse-Teepee Cards

I put my son in a reading camp with the school district this summer for a few weeks. Getting him into reading has been a battle. He was very nervous to go into a new environment on the first day of camp. While walking him in, I noticed the theme to their camp this year was Camp Crazy Horse and the door was decorated like the kids were walking into a teepee.

When I picked him up, he had the biggest smile on his face and asked me immediately if I could make some cards for the teachers. So I grabbed my Cupid Hearts Teepee Card from my library and got to work.

He started out by asking for two cards. Then it turned to three and maybe more. So I made five and hoped that would be enough for him!
I switched out the Cupid graphic for the Bookworm file I found in the Silhouette Design Store.
I chose the Delightful Stack from DCWV for this project because I wanted texture as well as different shapes/graphics. This stack has both as well as the great colors. I was able to make every element for these cards with just that one stack.
I thought the glasses were cute and my son wears glasses so why not?!

    Dreaming Tree Summer Challenge

One thing I like to do is take a few files, combine them together, and cross my fingers to hope they make something cohesive. When I saw that Dreaming Tree was having a summer challenge of taking two or more of their files and making something, well that was a bomb I was willing to jump on.

To start with, I took the Cozy Kitchen SVG Bundle and cut out all the elements for the recipe box. The box itself took 8 sheets of Core d'nations 'Broken China Distressed' 12x12 cardstock. Then I cut out the details in the wonderful brand new double sided 12x12 'Birds & Butterflies' stack by DCWV (HIGHLY recommend this stack).

As I was cutting, ideas were flying. A while back, my cousin had recommended I make a box of cards for popular occasions that someone can just grab a card and go. Since I don't really have a use for a recipe box, I decided to take her recommendation and see where it led!
So, I took four dowels and hammered them into four gold eyelets with the divider pieces assembled and in place.
Next I grabbed some orchid files from the Orchid Events SVG Bundle.
I did a quick brush of color to the center of the flowers
Next I took the butterflies from the Butterfly Fairy House and floated some color onto the wings using white cardstock, Sharpie markers, and the Craftwell eBrush.
If you haven't caught on, butterflies are my jam.
Next I wanted the butterflies to float over the orchids. To do this, I found some bread ties my husband had lying around. I stripped the wire out and coiled it using my Netlab quilling tool.
My husband usually doesn't mind me repurposing his things. He usually only worries when I start asking where his power tools are. Take one bathroom apart and he worries for life, I mean come on what kind of damage can I do on my own....a lot. He does have reason to worry.
Next I grabbed some random stamps, embossing powder, and white cardstock for some sentiments on the cards.
Embossing always puts a smile on my face
To take it from powder to this metallic looking sentiment, yes please!
I grabbed some new embossing powder the other day. Not because I needed it, but because it has glitter in it and I take any chance to annoy my husband with glitter.
Next I started to assemble my cards using the Xyron Mega Runner® .
I also used the Xyron Creative Station® to create some foam pop up strips for the back of the sentiments.
    Final Project:

The paper is just so beautiful on it's own, there really was little to no cause to change it up any.

For this butterfly card, I used elements from the free Butterfly Favor Box.
