For the shadow box effect on the card, it was a simple four steps to creating it.
Next I discovered my printer was out of ink. But no worries, I just used the sketch feature in Silhouette Studios.
I sketched right onto the paper from Derwent Academy Watercolour Pad using a regular pen and the Silhouette pen holder attachment.
After my waves were cut out, I grabbed the Derwent Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Tin, Derwent Academy Assorted Brushes, a little cup of water, and a rag.
I have worked with the Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Tin years ago when I was going through my drawing/painting stage. They are vibrant and smooth pencils.
There are three ways that I have found to use these pencils and brushes.
First Method:
Transfer color from paper to a wet brush and paint with the brush.
Second Method:
Color right on image. Blend with a wet brush.
Third Method: (My preferred method for this project)
Run the tip of the wet brush on the tip of the watercolour pencil and paint away.
What's an ocean themed card without shells? I wanted to add a little bit of texture to the shells. I simply grabbed my Stampendous Dream Text stamp with some Hampton Art acid free black ink. I knew this ink would not bleed when wet. Then I painted highlights over the text.
Once I had every element designed, cut, and colored, I used my Xyron Mega Runner® to adhere the pieces in place.
I also painted the sentiment to keep in line with the theme.
For the inside insert, run adhesive along the tabs and put in place.
I decided the card needed just an extra boost. I wanted to do a fishing net, but I was fresh out of them. I know why would I, the non-fisher have nets lying around?! Anyhow I grabbed some Ashland Twine (I know wrong material, but it's only for a prop!) and made my own little net.
Finished Project:
Side view you can see why it's called a shadow box card.
